Do you need a permit to put a porta potty on private property?

A porta potty on private property in Jefferson City needs no city permit for the toilet itself. Homeowner associations, landlords and some subdivisions have their own rules, so check covenants first. Construction projects still need their building permit from the City of Jefferson, and the job toilet must meet OSHA ratios.

Can a porta potty go on the street or sidewalk?

A porta potty on a Jefferson City street, sidewalk or other public right-of-way needs city approval before delivery. Call the City of Jefferson Public Works / Streets Division at City Hall, 320 E. McCarty St., (573) 634-6410. Units in the street also need reflectors or cones and must not block sidewalks or sight lines.

What does the Jefferson City special event permit ask about restrooms?

Jefferson City's parade, race and festival permits are filed with the Office of the Chief of Police, 401 Monroe St., (573) 634-6400. The application asks you to state where portable restrooms will be placed for the event, plus your trash placement and cleanup plan. The applicant is responsible for cleanup costs.

What sanitation rules apply to job sites and farms?

Construction sites follow OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51: 1 toilet for 20 or fewer workers, then 1 seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers. Paragraph (f) requires washing facilities where workers handle contaminants. Farms follow OSHA 1928.110: 1 toilet and 1 hand-wash facility per 20 field workers, within a quarter-mile walk.

How many accessible units does a public event need?

Public events need at least 5% of portable toilets in each cluster to be accessible, with a minimum of 1, under the 2010 ADA Standards, section 213.2. An accessible unit needs a 60-inch turning circle inside and a firm, level route to the door.

Questions renters ask

Are there any rules about where it has to be?

On private land, the main rules are practical: level ground, truck access within about 15 feet, and away from wells, food and doorways. On public land, the city decides placement.

Do I need a permit for a porta potty at a park pavilion?

Jefferson City Parks pavilion and park reservations have their own rules. Ask the Parks department when you reserve whether outside restrooms are allowed.

Can I put porta potties at a Mizzou tailgate?

University of Missouri tailgating rules do not allow portable toilets on campus lots. Off-campus private lots and homes in Columbia are a different matter.

Who dumps the waste? It doesn't get dumped on my property, right?

Waste is pumped into our service truck and taken to a permitted treatment facility. Nothing is emptied on your property.
